Dreamgirls light the way in Oklahoma!
Following its hit run on Broadway in 2009, a film adaptation starring Beyonce and Jennifer Hudson (winning the latter an Academy Award.and a current London production on right now), Oklahoma Civic Center present a brand-new staging of Dreamgirls! Follow the triumph and torment of show business is examined in this musical about a Supremes-like female singing group that fights its way to the top, losing its moral bearings in the process, then rediscovering themselves.
Hopeful talents soul Deena Jones, Lorrell Robinson and Effie White are performing as The Dreamettes when ambitious agent Curtis Taylor, Jr. discovers them. Landing them a job as backup singers for the soul and rock 'n' roll sensation James 'Thunder Early', he smartly begins to mold their rising career. However Deena and Effie come to blows when the former is held up as the group's star for her beauty, rather than the full-voiced yet less glamorous Effie, and the dream threatens to unravel as fast as it began.
