MISH MASH CAST WITH NO CHEMISTRY

First forget the fun and entertaining original. This production was poorly cast with very good voices with no mics to hear their parts. Even with limited scenery change to put out the lights and just listen in the dark was lame and pathetic. The horrid dream dance was toooo long and did nothing toward Laurie's answer. Annie is supposed to be a good girl in appearance, not shown here. Jud was not a big man capable of running a farm. And lastly, how can you have a bloodbath, a kangaroo court that you couldn't hear and a happy song sung in a bloodbath.

EGO TRIP FROM A JADED MANHATTENITE DIRECTOR?

Gougingly overpriced, minimalist iteration of this excuse for a revival..So bad that several times during the show(?) the audience weakly and meekly clapped ,self -consciously assuming it was appropriate.Towards the end I was scanning the stage looking for the oversized nest where this huge egg was laid

INTERMISSION EXIT

so disappointing. The voices were average at best, could barely hear Laurie half the time. NO energy on stage. Set uninspired. Odd staging choices. I knew this was "reimagined' so the casting and weird twist to dark side was not my problem.

KEEP THE PLAYBILL

If you decide to see this 'production' keep the playbill so you can actively avoid any other plays from this director. The only laughs I got out of this play was reading the reviews POST seeing this. Daniel Fish (the Director) must love living with disappointment as this is a giant one. I'm convinced the actors have either drank the kool-aid, or are being paid so much that pride no longer has meaning to them. I hope its the latter. It was embarrassing on all levels

WORSE THAN TERRIBLE

We have been attending Broadway shows for over 40 years. This was absolutely the most boring, terrible show we ever attended. The actors were not interested. They sat disinterested at picnic tables on the stage until their time to say their lines. Basically they read a script that was from an all time classic, Oklahoma, while we waited for intermission to leave. The talent was much less than we are used to seeing. The singing was also sub par. If it wasn’t for the familiar songs we would have left much sooner. This is NOT OKLAHOMA. Save your time and money. If the cultural trust brings more of these so called modern shows we will be sure to cancel our subscription. No set, no acting, fair singing, no thank you!

WHAT A MESS!

I was excited to hear the score in bluegrass style, and the pit band did not disappoint. But that was the only redeeming quality of this production. The notion that you could modernize the story leaving all the songs the same is flawed. OK statehood is historical. Singing about gas buggies is out of time. This incoherent time period was ever present and a huge distraction. Sets (I hesitate to make that plural) and staging was boring, and it often felt like a read through. Lightning was terrible with the stage often dark, furthering the read through effect. The dance sequence was indescribably out of place, accompanied by loud electric guitar music, also out of sync with the bluegrass arrangements. There was no chemistry or playfulness between Laurey and Curly. The singing was weak, with a few bright spots from Laurey and Jud. The ending was shocking leaving one sympathetic to the antagonist Jud, rather than the hero/heroine, or at least to the audience who paid to see this mess.
